West coast interview tour!
We stopped by Chris Cooper's studio in LA only to catch him in the middle of painting one of his iconic images. Coop showed us his incredible collection of Japanese toys as well.
My right hand man- Dimmitt (who was hungover that day) with the legendary Frank Kozik. Concert posters as art, Man's Ruin records and the Smoking Bunny.........very collectible stuff! Thanks for having us Frank!
Long Gone John! we were very humbled by his hospitality not to mention his jaw-dropping collection of art! Thanks John! Sympathy For The Record Industry.....nuff said!
Our first interview out west- The one and only legend- Helios Creed. He gave us his new CD and it became our soundtrack for the entire shoot tour- yes....this is mind-blowing music. One of my favorite releases for 2012 so far........
Jello was one of the more fascinating people we met along the way...was a hell of a nice guy and even played some of his favorite records for us- It was an honor to visit him in San Francisco- yep that's me after a late night interview session........
Shepard Fairey took time out of his very busy schedule to make sure he could meet with us and talk about how AmRep, punk rock and Tom Hazelmyer was vital in helping him in the early days. He was a great host and a cool dude- Thanks Shepard!
Interviews and out for Seattle pizza with none other than.....The Thrown Ups! yes, enough to make anyone go mad.....and throw up! Thanks Ed for having us over!
AmRep not only hosted an assortment of the very best in noise and adventurous acts, but liked their crazy-assed straight up rock and roll bands as well- enter Lollipop! TOP- me and Marc while listening to The Who, MIDDLE- L to R, Curt and Dave with my camera man Dimmitt then me. Oh yeah- that guy who is smarter than all of us put together is Curt's son in the middle! BOTTOM- L to R some dork and Lollipop's original bass player, Rebecca! and...............Ethiopian Lemmy. He was hungry and looked it- so Rebecca fed him from her pet food store in Maple Valley, WA.
MORE TO COME........

The Unsanity of it all!!!!
Words can't describe the serious and brutal tone of this meeting......!
Thanks goes to Vinnie Singorelli for letting us interview the band at home. Unsane is by far one of my most favorite bands, and it was great to talk to them about their experiences with Haze and recording the classic "Scattered, Smothered & Covered."

Page Hamilton visit to NYC!
Thanks goes out to Page for taking time to interview with us last week. We had some of the best NYC pizza in our hood (Nonna's) and talked about the pre-Helmet days and the AmRep legacy. Was an honor to share some time with a great musician. Here posing with my "bumble-bee" kit used with the Heroine Sheiks. We also followed Page and co. to The Black Cat in D.C. to shoot and record the show!

THE COLOR OF NOISE - a documentary in the works!
Hello all music lovers! The reason behind this blog is to keep all those who are interested up to date with month to month progress on the film. "The Color of Noise" will be a story of music and art, and how the keen musical tastes, and ultra graphic design sense of one independent record label owner brought to the world the sights and sounds that helped to create and influence future musical genres while humbly kicking the crap out of the rock underground! Amphetamine Reptile Records while in full operation from the mid 1980's to the late 1990's turned out an incredible roster of music acts with the participation of up and coming graphic designers and poster artists. Though recent facts prove that there is still activity brewing within the AmRep factory, and have ever since it officially closed it's doors in 1998. The ending of a record label gives birth to a new kind of boutique art movement, where music is the art and the records are on the wall! The Color of Noise is currently filming, and will be throughout the next year- please feel free to post your comments and periodically check back for updates.
If you were there back then and did some filming yourself in any format, or possess photographs you would like to have included in the film- contact us at: media@thecolorofnoise.com
We are looking for better quality footage, but will use a variety of different formats and quality ranges, as sometimes VHS or Super 8 was the format of choice in those days. Got something really good? get it to us! All media will be guaranteed to be returned to the owner, and will be handled in a professional manner. We are looking for archival footage relating to the following artists:
Boss Hog (89'-92' lineup), Chokebore, Cosmic Psychos, God Bullies, Guzzard, Halo of Flies, Hammerhead, Hedonists, Helios Creed, Helmet, Killdozer (pre-90'), King Snake Roost, Lollipop, Love 666, Lubricated Goat (pre-91'), Mama Tick, The Melvins, Mudhoney, Nashville Pussy (97'-2000 lineup), Servotron, Surgery, Supernova, Tad, Tar, The Cows, The Thrown Ups, The U-Men, Today Is The Day, Unsane, Vertigo, Otto's Chemical Lounge, Toadlochen, Billy Childish,
We are about 1/2 way through interviewing- meaning we have a heck of a lot more to do, so if you are reading this and were somehow involved with AmRep in any way- employee, band member, poster artist or fanatical music reviewer or even just a fan of the label- get in touch with us. Some very important people in this story I have not reached out to yet, only because of scheduling so far. The rest of this year and into the next I will be contacting more people- and our goal is to try to speak to everyone involved and offer a chance to be in the film. So far almost everyone I have approached has showed enthusiasm in the project and has participated. Check out our promo at: www.thecolorofnoise.com
Another update soon- stay tuned!
